Q1 - Why does the DVR-810 show “Database Empty”? Database Empty is only shown when no TV channels have been acquired during the initial Installation setup procedure. (Top of Page)

Q3 - Do I need to upgrade the software/firmware in my DVR-810? If your DVR-810 has firmware earlier than version 3039 it is recommended that you install the latest update. (Top of Page)
Q4 - What is EPG. EPG is defined as Electronic Program Guide. In most cases the broadcaster sends the title and duration of the current program (Now) and the program that follows (Next). As of January 1 2008 all broadcasters excluding SBS are sending a full 7 day EPG. The DVR-810 can record all programs associated with 7 day EPG data. (Top of Page)
Q5 - Why do I sometimes get picture pixilation or audio and/or video dropouts? This is primarily due to antenna reception and/or impulse noise (electrical interference). Please refer to the information on our Product Support page Antenna Installation Guidelines. (Top of Page)
Q6 - Can I transfer or backup a recorded file from the DVR-810 to another device. (i.e. Hard Disc or USB Thumb Drive). The DVR-810 does not currently allow for the backup of locally recorded files/programs to an external Hard Disc or Thumb Drive. (Top of Page)
Q7 - Can I transfer a recorded title on the DVR-810 to an external DVD recorder. Yes. Connect the composite video and L/R audio connectors of the DVR-810 to the composite video and L&R audio inputs of your DVD recorder. Thereafter, follow the connection and operation instructions supplied with your DVD recorder. NOTE: While recording to a DVD recorder, do not change channels or operate any other control functions on the DVR-810. However, recording of TV programs to the DVR-810 is allowed and must be done before commencing to record to your DVD recorder. (Top of Page)
Q8 - Can the DVR-810 accept video and audio input from an external device. (i.e. VHS or PayTV). The DVR-810 does not currently allow for the recording of external video sources. (Top of Page)
Q9 - I sometimes see the ERR light turn on and off on the front panel indicators. Why does this happen? The ERR indicator is only active if the DVR-810 detects errors related to decoding of video/audio. These errors are due to discontinuities in the received or recorded file data. (Top of Page)
Q10 - Can I edit a previously recorded title/file? Yes. Go to the Main Menu and Select Disc Navigator. Then select Edit. For full instructions on how to edit a previously recorded title, refer to page 62 in the Owners Manual. (Top of Page)
Q11 - Can I record a program on a daily or weekly basis? Press the Timer REC button. Select the Time/Freq function. Press the 6 button and choose one of the available Frequency options and then press the ENTER button. Continue on to set the Start and Stop Times including the Channel selection. Press ENTER to save the information. (Top of Page)
Q12 - What is a Bookmark and how do I use this function? A Bookmark is used to reference to a specific position or time during recording or playback. To use the Bookmark feature press the “Bookmark” button on the RCU. The time information associated with the first “Bookmark” is stored. To retrieve a ”Bookmark” press either the 3or4 navigation buttons on the RCU. A total of eight Bookmarks for each title is allowed. (Top of Page)
Q13 - How do I change the Commercial Skip settings? To change the Commercial Skip settings activate the Main Menu. Select Disc Setup. Select and modify either or both the Forward or Reverse Skip times to suit your requirements. (Top of Page)
Q14 - How do I reassign the Channel Group (Blue) buttons? To change the Channel Group button assignments activate the Main Menu. Select Viewer Preferences. Using the 5 or 6 navigation button select the channel that you wish to reassign. The Channel Group assigned to that channel is shown below the video preview window. To delete the current assignment press the blue button associated with the channel. To assign a different button to the channel press a different blue button. (Top of Page)
Q15 - When I start to play a recorded title, I have noticed that only sometimes there is a momentary drop in audio when playback commences. If the DVR-810 detects that the AV synchronization is incorrect audio is muted while resynchronization occurs. (Top of Page)
Q16 - On some occasions while recording or during playback and using the trick mode functions (fast forward, rewind commercial skip) why is there a momentary audio dropout? If the DVR-810 detects that the AV synchronization is incorrect audio is muted while resynchronization occurs. (Top of Page)
Q17 - How do I view the other program that I am recording while two programs are being recorded. Press the ENTER button to activate the Channel List. The two programs being recorded are indicated with a red circular icon. Scroll to and select the other program and press ENTER. (Top of Page)
Q18 - Can I delete more than one recorded title/file at once? Yes. Press the MENU button. From the Main Menu select the Disc Navigator option and press ENTER. Select Delete and press ENTER. Select a recorded title you wish to delete and then press the 4 navigation button. The selected title marked for deletion is shown with an r. Scroll and select any other titles to be deleted. Press ENTER. NOTE: To unmark a title select a marked title and press the 4 navigation button. (Top of Page)
Q19 - How do I view and/or record programs using the 7 day EPG function?
- Press the EPG button. The EPG list referring to the current programs (EPG-Now) is displayed.
- Scroll to the channel you wish to view or record and press the EPG button again. The 7 day
EPG listing for the currently selected channel is displayed.
- Select any one of the seven days for a listing of the programs you want to view or record.
- Scroll through the listed program titles. Stop scrolling and select the title you wish to record.
- Press the REC button on the RCU. The Timer Recording dialog box is displayed. Press ENTER.
- Press EXIT to return to the EPG-Now listing and select a different channel if required.
Q20 - Can I playback a title when using the PIP mode? Yes.
- Ensure that no recording is in progress.
- While viewing live TV, press the PIP button.
- To view a previously recorded title in the PIP window, press the “Last Watched REC” button.
- Scroll through each of the recorded titles using the yellow CH+/CH- buttons.
- To display the content of the PIP window in full screen mode press the SWAP button.
Q21 - What is the USB2 port used for? Currently the USB2 port is only used for firmware upgrades. (Top of Page)
Q22 - Why does the Hard Disc capacity stated in the specification indicate 320GB and then when check the HDD Remaining in the Menu it shows 298GB. 320GB is calculated using base 10 or decimal value. This is the standard method that all manufacturers use to specify disc capacity. The DVR-810 uses base 2 to calculate disc capacity. i.e. 320GB (base 10) = 298 (base 2). (Top of Page)
Q23 - Why does the message “HDD Initializing” appear every time I want to record or playback? If the DVR-810 is not in recording or playback mode, the Hard Disc will shut down to reduce overall power consumption. The default setting is 5 minutes if no playback or recording mode is selected. Q24 - Can the “HDD Initializing” message be turned Off? Yes. From the Main Menu select Disc Setup > Power Saving > Press ENTER > Enter Password > HDD Time-out After > Never. (Top of Page)
Q25 - Does putting the DVR-810 in Standby affect any of the scheduled or EPG timers I have set up. No. (Top of Page)
Q26 - What does the “Service Switch” in the Timer REC and Easy Timer do. The Service Switch is associated with the Timer Record modes and can only be used while setting the recording schedule. Turning the Service Switch option On, allows you view the program from the instant the Timer starts recording and only if you are watching another channel. (Top of Page)
Q27 - How can I quickly skip parts of a pre-recorded program and not use the Fast Forward or Rewind Buttons? Any section of a video-audio title can be passed over or “skipped” while in playback or chase mode. To “skip” forward from the current position in any part of a title press the button to advance 30 seconds. Press the button again to advance 1 minute. Each time the button is pressed, the current position will “skip” forward in preprogrammed steps of 30sec, 1min, 2mins, 3mins, 5min and Title End. The same applies to the 9 button, except that the current position “skips” backwards. The preprogrammed steps for the 9 button is in increments of 5sec, 15sec, 30sec, 1mins, 2min and Title Start. Alternatively, use the Jump To (red) button. Just specify the time in HH:MM:SS using the numerical keypad on the remote control unit. (Top of Page)
Q28 - Can the DVR-810 be used with multiple displays and showing the same program. Yes. A combination of standard definition and high definition displays can be used. i.e. YPbPr + RGB + Composite + S-Video or HDMI + YPbPr/RGB + Composite + S-Video. NOTE: If using a 4:3 display adjustment of the Video Aspect Ratio may be required. Select this from the Main Menu > TV Setting option and then adjust to suit your requirements. (Top of Page)

Q30 - What is the maximum HDMI cable length recommended for use with the DVR-810. The DVR-810 has been tested with HDMI certified cables up to 15 metres. (Top of Page)
Q31 - Why does the Antenna Loop Out stop working when I turn the DVR-810 Off or put it into Standby? The antenna loop-out connector used in the DVR-810 is an active component. In other words, the DVR-810 needs to be powered On if the Antenna Loop-Out connector is connected to other equipment. (Top of Page)
Q32 - Can I view my digital camera photos using the Picture Viewer and a USB Thumb Drive. Currently the DVR-810 does not support this feature. (Top of Page)
